Is Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft a good read ?

Yes! It has been my favorite book since I read it the first time as a teenager. No film version has ever captured the philosophical nature of the book. I could go on and on about it but I'll try to control myself.
It's not a perfectly written book technically. There are problems with continuity and awkwardly composed sections but the themes and questions of existence raised in the book are fascinating. It's such a layered story that it can be interpreted many ways: as a tale of hubris, adventure, the destructive affect of society on humanity, fears of being a parent, the nature of existence, identity, goodness, evil. The story of it's conception...cold, rainy summer has Mary Shelley, Percy Shelley, Lord Byron, Claire Clairmont, and Byron's bizarre personal physician, trapped and bored in Byron's villa so they have a horror story competition to pass the time...is fascinating too.
Try to read the original 1818 edition not Mary Shelley's edited 1831 second edition. She changed a few things to make the book more palatable to the respectable reading public.
