Sales Maximum

When promoting music concerts how do you ensure maximum local sales?
I am promoting three music concerts in July and need ideas outside the box to ensure we leave no stone untearned to ensure maximum sales concert capacity is 2500 per night and concerts are aimed at a demograph of 35-55
The only way is to invite everyone you know and hope that who ever else comes brings some friends too. The biggest crowds are usually gained by people who go to school, college and uni or anywhere else where they already have a large social group.
Sadly posters, leaflets, etc don't work. They might make people recognise your name but people don't just go to gig based on this. If you saw a poster advertising a band you've never heard would you really pay up and watch them?
My only tips are not to over charge. People don't like paying over £3.
Also selling tickets before the gig is good because people then feel as though they have to go if they've already paid which is better than someone just promising that they'll go to a pay on the door gig.
Get a Myspace page! Let everyone know that you're playing a gig without even leaving your house.
