Severe toe and calf pain at night?
For the past year I have been experiencing two problems at night....my calf has been seizing and cramping (sometimes several times in a few moments and takes forever to relax) and my toes have been involuntarily tightening up and bending painfully. No amount of pushing down on them can get them to go back to normal. I just have to wait until they calm down and it is painful as heck. When it happens my toes and a sharp pain runs down along the inside of my foot.
Has anyone else heard of this???
You calf pain is because your achilles tendon is tightening up and the foot pains is because the muscle under your foot is doing the same thing. The muscles in both places need to be released to get the tendons back to their rightful length. Here is how to release those muscles:
Achilles tendon:
While sitting and your leg on your lap, take both thumbs and place them side by side at about ankle height on the tendon on the back of your leg and apply pressure hard and hold. After 30 seconds slowly raise your toes up as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your foot there for another 30 seconds.
Foot Muscle:
With your foot in your lap place your fingers side by side at the back of the arch right in front of the heel and press in hard and hold. After 30 seconds slowly raise your toes up as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your toes there for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
I have found that when I get a cramp in my legs I can dig my fingers right into the middle of the cramp and hold pressure on it and the pain stops right now and the cramp releases a few seconds later. Only after the cramp releases do I remove my fingers from that spot.
