Who did Ted Turner sell WCW to before Vince McMahon bought the company?
I know Turner sold the company to someone before McMahon bought it, but I can't remember who. Can anybody help?
He didn't sell it, unless you're talking about him selling Georgia Championship Wrestling to Vince for two weeks back in 1988 or so.
Turner's company was Time Warner. It owned WCW, not Turner personally, and was a publicly traded company. This means that if someone bought more stock in the company than Turner, he would no longer be in control of the company. While this never happened, there were enough other shareholders to limit Turner's influence, especially after Time Warner merged with America On Line, forming AOL-Time Warner.
After AOL-Time Warner was formed, and with his wife suffering from cancer, Turner paid less and less attention to business, and the board of Aol-Time Warner sold WCW, against his wishes. This was only after they took it off the air, ruining a deal Eric Bischoff was negotiating for Fusient Media Ventures, a company which he sat on the board of, to purchase WCW and continuing running it on TNT, Turner's television station. Without a television deal, Bischoff and FMV balked, and Vince McMahon was able to buy WCW for $2.5 million. Not bad, considering WCW made more than that a year. This is what happens when you let idiots run your company for you while your back's turned.
